Opening Reception Saturday, May 26, from 6 - 9:00 pm
Hygienic Art Galleries, 79 Bank Street, New London
Women’s Voices, an affordable Hygienic Arts, Inc. program open to all women, high school students through senior citizens, in collaboration with Kenté Cultural Center’s Mother/Daughter Workshops, presents the Women’s Voices VII Annual Art Exhibition, May 26-June 23, with the opening reception on Saturday, May 26, 2007 from 6 to 9 pm at Hygienic Art Galleries, 79 Bank Street, New London. This year, original artwork on display from May 26 through June 23, includes paintings, pastel drawings, photographs, linocut prints, sculpture, quilts, African masks and Korhogo panels, created by workshop participants and their instructors.
Now in its seventh year, Women’s Voices continues to connect women, diverse in age, ethnicity and culture through artistic expression. With affordable arts programming and exhibition opportunities for all women, Women’s Voices aims to empower women by developing their artistic skills, encourage new relationships within the female community and present a forum where they can express their individual voice.
Each year Women’s Voices has offered an increasing number and variety of art workshops with talented instructors who share their experience and nurture each woman’s creative exploration. The casual workshop environment brings out great conversation and sharing where many friendships have been forged. After each session of classes Women’s Voices helps women realize the value of their creative talents by offering a one month exhibition at Hygienic Art Galleries to show and sell their new works. This year Women’s Voices didn’t receive the grant support that they have in years past, as a result they created a fundraiser that maintains the mission of connecting women diverse in age, ethnicity and culture together through artistic expression. Offering 1-day and 2-day arts workshops for a larger monetary donation than in year’s past, with instructors volunteering their time to teach, Women’s Voices has successfully completed its seventh year. With continued community support, the Women’s Voices message will continue to be heard in 2008.
Women’s Voices is supported by Hygienic Art, Inc, Kenté Cultural Center,
Garde Arts Center and Bob’s Discount Furniture.
